Buried at Barratt's Chapel, the oldest surviving church building in the US
 
Shirl's latest haiku  . . .  
Creative partners
essential is sensual
living, being love.

Forever struggling,
for goals illusive . . . blindness,
humanity's curse.

Untamed, passion kills
chose transcendence . . . cease to be
passion's faithful slave.

Unconditional,
true love is, accept its gifts,
free hearts hold no bounty.

Curious, this need
to hold another's heart bound
without flight, I die.

So alive, I am
in awe of the universe
it is my playground.

Why avoid or hide?
Reality still comes to
haunt one to the grave.

Narrative of life,
quick turning, unforgiving
defies all rewrites.

Beauty beyond words,
Feelings of the heart bestowed,
Love's timeless language.
Freedom's only way ...
find the truth within, live it,
breathe it, become it.

Dire fate's release,
karmic maze transcended . . . ah . . .
freedom born of now.

Far  . . . beyond the mist,
I am drawn like butterfly
to flame . . . home again.

My heart now captive
Rising, falling to your call
I plead cut the strings.

Following the brooke
always near food, refreshment
nature's whim provides.

Blind by stubborn will,
you're never wrong, you swear.
Lost . . . a chance to love.

Oh wondrous day,

where have you gone, a thousand
things I could have done.

 Beneath the shell is
flesh so tender, challenging
all to venture in.

Yesterday's moments
Today's memories, lost but
never forgotten.
